Prepare to Perform Q4W3&4 April 1-15th

For the first two weeks in April, students will develop skills to improve their competitive performances. Here are a few methods that will work in different ways to create multiple "Memory Paths" to the information you are recalling.

Memorization Strategies

  1.  Read through it aloud. Repetition Memory: Work in small passages or Chunks at a time to make it more manageable.
  2. Copy the text by hand.  Motor Memory: This reinforces the information the same as reading it SEVEN TIMES!
  3. Read through the text and create a short outline or flowchart.  Spatial Memory creates a mind map for more visual thinkers.
  4. Have someone else read it to you.  Auditory Memory: Often more short term than other strategies.

Character Analysis

Use your knowledge of the character to build a complete and real person for your piece.  Paper scripts are a MUST, so you can add notes to them.  I have found an excellent resource at TheaterFolk.com about developing your character here.
